Why?

The activities of the Gulf Watch Alaska Program are coordinated by a program management team to ensure the program is fiscally responsible, scientifically credible, and publicly transparent. The management team works closely with the principal investigators, the data management team, and the science synthesis team to ensure the program is on track to achieve its goals, objectives, and deliverables.

As the administrative lead, the Prince William Sound Science Center (PWSSC) serves a combination of roles, including managing award contracts for all non-Trustee agency projects within the program; ensuring program and project compliance with all reporting policies, practices and timelines; and serving as a liaison between the program and EVOSTC staff. The PWSSC also coordinates travel and logistics for principal investigator meetings and outreach efforts; participates in an annual audit; and provides administrative support to the outreach and community involvement component of the GWA program and to those projects implemented by the PWSSC.

Where?

Administrative services will be completed at the PWSSC office in Cordova. Science review and principal investigator meetings will be held in Anchorage or elsewhere in the Gulf of Alaska Exxon Valdez oil spill (EVOS) affected region.

How?

As a member of the Program Management Team, PWSSC contributes to the coordination and management of over two dozen scientists generating monitoring data and synthetic information about the ecosystems and marine conditions within the spill area.

Management activities include: developing reports, budgets and annual work plans; coordinating with EVOSTC staff, reviewing scientific or field issues with the Scientific Coordinating Committee; and ensuring program compliance with EVOSTC requirements.

Administrative activities include: conducting annual audits; establishing and managing contracts to all non-Trustee agency organizations funded through this program; completing fiscal reporting; and providing logistical support for annual PI meetings, as well as to the Program Management Team and the Outreach Steering Committee.
